Pain oh pain
I am trying really hard lately to be grateful. I have many, many blessings and I am really grateful for them...but it has not been easy to recognize them all. Since last August I have been dealing with severe pain in my right hip. The doctors have diagnosed it as bursitis. I have been taking massive amounts of ibuprophen and now they have switched me to a stronger drug. Since the pain is not going away and now it has spread to my knee and my shoulder, they are running more tests to find out exactly what it is. We started with an MRI and that test revealed some spots on my bones. So the radiologist recommended doing a full bone scan. I got the results today and they are inconclusive. Basically that means that they really don't know what the spots are. The radiologist thinks they might be "bone islands" but they don't know for sure so now I get to go and have a biopsy done. They are going to give me a numbing shot and then do a CT scan and while they are scanning the doctor will use a long needle to remove some of the tissue that will then be sent to the lab for testing. It is a little scary - I am so not a fan of shots or inflicting pain on myself in anyway, shape or form. I am glad that they are taking me seriously. I am ready to find out what is causing this terrible pain and I would love it to be something non-life threatening and easy to fix, but I am concerned that it might be something more....stay tuned for more info....

Busy, Busy, Busy!
I have been meaning to update this page, but life is going so fast right now that I don't seem to have any time. It doesn't help that we are having major computer issues! My computer keeps crashing and it has taken multiple calls to HP and many hours to get them to finally agree to fix it! It is still covered under the warranty and we are hoping that they can fix it and then just send it back...we shall see...not holding my breath! We are planning to buy a Mac in August for me for school (yes Aimee, you have convinced me!) and I don't have summer school so technically we could survive the summer without my computer, but who wants to do that?
We have been swamped with end of school year festivities. Faith went to Yosemite for a week and had a fantastic time. She went on multiple hikes, I believe one of them was 10 miles or longer. She was so proud of herself. It was a long time for her to be gone, but she has so much fun and is really excited to go to Yosemite this year with the fam and show us what she got to see and what hikes she got to go on. Vilate and David are currently on Vilate's overnighter to the Sacramento Zoo. Vilate was so excited to go and has not talked about much else over the past few weeks. Hyrum leaves on Tuesday for a 4 day - 3 night trip to Point Reyes. He is really looking forward to camping with his friends. Helaman and Gloria get to go to the Sacramento Zoo with their class in a week and are looking forward to that.
I got to go on a fieldtrip to San Francisco to the California Academy of Science. It was great. They have a rainforest, swamp and aquarium, as well as displays of African animals (not living), a whale skeleton, a large conservation area and a very expensive cafeteria! It was really fun to walk around and see all the different things. It was like a museum/mini zoo/aquarium. I really enjoyed it! Tomorrow I am going on another fieldtrip for my biology class to the foothills and then the local river.
David has been busy himself with recitals, choir concerts and he had a fieldtrip to see Wicked...the bad news: kids got sick and so did he so he did not get to go! I felt so bad for him. I think he really would have enjoyed it, but what do you do? He is enjoying his time today with Vilate.
We are looking forward to May 20th. That is graduation for us from American River College. We will both have our AAs and then we both get a much needed break from school for the summer! We both are transferring to California State University, Sacramento in the Fall.
Add to all that baseball and just the normal running here, there and everywhere and you have our busy lives. We are trying to enjoy it all without missing anything. It is a challenge, but a challenge that I wouldn't trade for anything!

Kids say the darnedist things
When David was getting ready for his show on Friday afternoon and posing for pictures, Gloria said the funniest thing. She said, "Daddy is so cute. He's Jesus with a dress." It was hilarious. My kids say really funny things regularly. It's not always what they say, but how they say it.

My wonderfully talented and handsome husband is going to portray Jesus Christ in the musical presentation of "The Garden" tonight and tomorrow night. He tried on his full costume today and I asked him to go outside with me so that I could take a few pictures. At first he was a little hesitant. He didn't want to wear his "dress" outside for all the neighbors to see, but he loves me and wanted to make me happy! So here is my favorite picture. I am hoping to get a few more this evening. If anyone in the area is interested in attending, it will be tonight and tomorrow (4/10 - 4/11) at the Van Maren building of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Today, for the first time ever, we dyed easter eggs at my house. It was really fun and the kids had a marvelous time with some friends that came over. We ended up coloring over 4 dozen eggs.
My favorite kind was the tye-dye kit. It was really fun. The kids would put a few drops of the color gel on the egg and then use a plastic bag to spread it around and mix the colors together. It was really neat and it was more fun than just dipping their eggs into the cups.
Amazingly enough with 9 kids dying eggs we managed NO spills!! I was shocked and so was my friend, Kim, mom to the other 3 kids.
At one point we lost Nephi. We looked all over the house and found him actually under the kitchen table eating an egg that he had dropped on the floor, shell and all! He sure got angry when I tried to take the egg away to peel off the shell!
Helaman loved eating the eggs so much that he wouldn't even wait for the dye to dry before busting the egg open. Gloria was the funniest! She wanted to eat the eggs so I began to peel one for her and she said that she wanted to eat the outside part (the shell) because the inside was "too squishy to eat." David and I had a good laugh at that one! Once we explained that you were not supposed to eat the shell - and it really took a lot of convincing - she was willing to give the "squishy" part a try and she ended up liking it.
So, we have successfully completed the first egg dying adventure. When we were almost done Helaman said, "Mom this is really fun. Maybe we could do it again sometime?" Vilate or Faith (I can't remember which) responded with, "Yeah, next year!" I'm glad that it all went so well!
